Abstract

Objective: To improve the oral health condition in Indonesia, filling to extraction ratio of the permanent teeth is one of the success rate indicators for the public health centers. The National target of The Ministry of Health Republic of Indonesia (1990) for filling to extraction ratio of the permanent teeth is 1 : 1. According to The Ministry of Health, Republic of
Indonesia (2001), filling to extraction ratio of the permanent teeth in all public health centers in Indonesia is still below the
target (1 : 2.7). Only 2 of 26 provinces have reached the national target, and no public health centers in Tangerang District
has reached this target. The aim of this study is to find factors that related to the target achievement of the filling to extraction ratio of the permanent teeth in Tangerang City.

Materials and Method: Subject of this study are 90 respondents that visited the public health centers in Tangerang City. The independent variables are knowledge, the attitude and practice of dental health, the cost and treatment need, whereas the dependent variable is the target achievement of filling to extraction ratio of the permanent teeth.

Results: The result of this study showed that knowledge, the attitude and practice of oral health and the treatment cost of filling and extraction of the permanent teeth are related to the target achievement of the filling to extraction ratio of the permanent teeth. The treatment need of filling and extraction of the permanent teeth is not related to the target achievement of filling and extraction of the permanent teeth.

Conclusion: From this study, it seems that the priority of dental treatment need among the community is still relatively low. To improve this condition a comprehensive approach in community dental health education is urgently needed.
